Can We Alter Our DNA? Yes We Can!

Nutrition, Alter our DNA with Nutrition, Changing DNA with Nutrition

Yesterday I was watching one of my favorite shows from Nova. In the few hours of free time that I have, I still try to watch something insightful and educating. The episode was called ” Can We Live Forever”. I found out a lot of incredible scientific information, and it inspired me to do some research on Human DNA.

As I already knew before, and now my researched confirmed it – nutrition and a physical activity can alter our DNA.   Now there are even more reasons for healthy diet, and daily physical activity.

I grew up hearing stories, that our genetics is what we are stuck with. I definitely never believed that notion, simply because it didn’t make sense to me. Even when I was a child I always tried living outside the box.

I was told back then as well as now, that after we turn 24 we all begin to gain weight and age at the speed of light, and there is nothing we can do about it. ( I don’t want to sound like Forrest Gump )  But my mom always said ” It’s not true what they say about genetics, we don’t have to get old at 24 and let our selves go”.   My mom still has to show her ID when she goes out, and she is in perfect health.  When she goes to the doctor, he is the one always asking her what she does to be this healthy. I’ll tell you what she does – she eats real food such as nuts, fruits, veggies, fish, eggs, soy milk etc. She always does some kind of exercise. The rest of my family is not very healthy, mostly because they don’t like healthy food.

Anyway, this post is about research that I did and wanted to share it, because I want to help people understand how important it is to have a healthy Nutrition and a regular exercise. It can truly change your life.

You can change your DNA towards immunity or cure from future estimated diseases.
Our cells change all the time, the old cells get replaced by new cells every day. So every day we have a chance to change the future of our health.

Let’s say some of your family members had suffered with an illness, and it is predicted you might have it as well. You can prevent it!
We don’t have to give up anymore.

Dr. Dean Ornish, the head of Preventive Medicine Research Institute conducted a research where they tracked 30 men with a low – risk prostate cancer. The men underwent three months of major lifestyle changes, such as a diet full of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and soy products, as well as moderate exercise from 30 minutes to an hour, and a daily meditation. ( Meditation helps to deal with stress, because stress ages our sells more than Sun or anything else. It’s pretty much the number one age factor ). The reason for the research is,  those men decided against conventional medical treatment, such as radiation and hormone therapy.

After the three month’s the researches found incredible changes when they compared prostate biopsies taken before and after the lifestyle changes.

The men had changes in activity in about 500 genes including 48 that were turned on and 453 genes that were turned off. The activity of disease – preventing genes increased while a number of disease – promoting genes ( including those involved in prostate cancer and breast cancer, shut down. This study was published in the journal PNAS ( Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences ).

The statement from Dr. Ornish:

“It’s an exciting finding because so often people say, ‘Oh, it’s all in my genes, what can I do?’ Well, it turns out you may be able to do a lot. In just three months, I can change hundreds of my genes simply by changing what I eat and how I live?’ That’s pretty exciting,The implications of our study are not limited to men with prostate cancer.”

I would like to write about a few more studies, but I don’t want to bore you with too long of a post.
To me this is definitely a breakthrough, that we don’t have to be trapped anymore in a belief that was drilled in our mind by nonbelievers!
A very successful celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson has been saying for years – ” We can alter our genetics! “.  But even if we don’t listen to her, there is still science we can’t ignore.

I was reading a lot of people are outraged by a claim like that, mostly because I feel it’s scary for people in to change what they are so used to believing.
When Albert Einstein came out with his theory, everyone though he was just another crazy guy. Look where his belief and persistence to understand how the world works got him – it brought us to the future.
Now days I believe everything is possible! The other day I was watching a science channel and I saw a physicist describe time travel. A few years ago, time travel was just another crazy idea, but today it’s real!
So here you have it. If you want change, no matter how big or small everything is possible!

What do you think?
