Secrets To Shiny And Healthy Hair

My Tips for Healthy Hair

I use to have really terrible hair.  It was brittle, not healthy and it was breaking off every day. And then I discovered what I needed to do to have healthy hair.   One of the biggest things I did, I stopped using shampoo. That’s right, I have been shampoo free for over a year.

The second thing I did,   I started to take Hair Skin Nails vitamins.

The third thing, I began to use a really good hair mask once a week.   Every week.   You have to use a good hair mask, but no more than once a week, because too much of a good thing is not so good.   What the hair mask does, it puts protein back into you hair ( I’m sure you know that hair is made up of protein ) and rebuilds the split ends.  By hair mask, I don’t mean run out and by the first thing that you see that says hair mask on it.  They are not crated equal.  And don’t get any drugstore brands they don’t work!

The difference in my hair was huge.   It stopped breaking off and it became super shiny and I never looked back on my shampoo days or vitamin free days again.  Those few things and a good nutrition of course ( you knew I was going to say that :) ) is the secrets to a healthy hair.

Now, I think you would like to know what I started using instead of a shampoo :) .  I am sure by now you think I am totally crazy, no shampoo…  What?! That’s not even possible – shampoo has been used since forever.   Yeah, that’s what the shampoo industry tells you, so it can strip your hair, and they can sell you a good conditioner to fix it, and then a leave in conditioner so your hair doesn’t break off.   And you end up spending something like 80 or more dollars on very expensive products for your hair.

Well for me It stopped over a year ago.  I saw an infomercial and I was skeptical as hell, but for some reason I went with my gut feeling that told me that if I try this product it was going to change my hair.  It did.  You want the name don’t you :) .  It’s Wen Cleansing Conditioner. It is a cleanser, conditioner and a leave- inn conditioner in One.  One bottle for everything.  It doesn’t strip your hair off and you see the difference the first time you use it. My hair felt so soft that I couldn’t take my hands off of it.  My favorite kind is Wen Cucumber Aloe and Wen Pomegranate.   I love those two.  I am the type of person that I wouldn’t share things with people unless I really love something, and this product changed my hair like nothing I ever tried.

Now let’s get on to vitamins.  There are plenty of really good Hair Skin Nails vitamins, but because everybody is different you have to find what works the best for you.   I have a favorite brand and it does miracles for me, but some of my friends and other people said those vitamins made them allergic, so you have to find something that will work for you.   Just find something Hair Skin Nails!

Now let’s get on to the Hair Mask I use weekly.   I’ve tried hundreds, I joke you not hundreds of hair masks, and nothing even comes close to this one.  It’s truly a classic and if you check the reviews on it, all healthy hair lovers out there will agree with me.  You can get it at your local Ulta store or a Hair Salon near by or you can find it here.  The name is Joico K-PAK Reconstructor.   It smells like a banana pie.  Every time I’m using it, I want to eat it out of the tube.  It rebuilds your hair so you don’t get split ends.  I love it!

Of course, you should always trim your hair on a regular basis from 6 – 8 weeks, to keep your hair healthy.

Hope you enjoyed my post, and if you have cool recommendations for hair, or anything else leave me a comment ;)

The more I read from your blog, the more I fall in love it!  Such great information and I love that you share so many natural ways of doing it.  I have been shampoo free for over a year now.  I use baking soda and apple cidar vinegar and I absolutely love it!  I also have never looked back once I started it.  It took my hair about 2 weeks to adjust, but it sbsolutely works for me.  I am going to try the hair mask you recommended.  Can’t wait!

Wow, that’s cool baking soda and apple sider, I would love to try, how do you mix and use it?

      • sus

I put about 1/8-1/4 cup baking soda in a plastic 2c cup and fill it up with water in the shower.  I then mix it up with the end of my scrub brush and pour it all over my hair and gently massage it in, then rinse.  Then I rinse out the cup so the apple cider vinegar doesn’t “volcano.”  I pour about 2 Tablespoons in the cup and fill it with water and rinse my hair out with it.  The vinegar helps balance the ph levels.  For blond hair like yours, you can use lemon juice in place of the apple cidar vinegar.  And if you like, you can also do an additional rinse right before you get out of the shower with honey and water which adds shine and smells amazing.

Wow, that sounds amazing, I’m gonna try it, cause WEN is getting quite expensive, I stretch it out for 2 months usually, but this will really help me to have a alternative.  Thank you so much for sharing Sus :)

I don’t mean to butt in on this post, but I was wondering about the apple cider vinegar, I have long blonde hair and thought using lemon juice would lighten my hair? ( i get highlights) Can a blonde still use the cider vinegar rinse? Thanks

I actually started thinking that as well, but I am pretty sure that it’s safe because I used to use apple cider vinegar to rinse my hair before and I’ve never had any problems.

“Now, I think you would like to know what I started using instead of a shampoo . I am sure by now you think I am totally crazy, no shampoo… What?! ” lolll thanks alot for this laugh!! You’re so funny Tatianna!! hahaha

I saw “WEN” on tv like 2 weeks ago, but I didn’t think it could work, until you mentioned you’ve tried! Maybe I should as well, my hair is a mess, almost everytime I comb my hair I have to clean the floor :( and I even have more hair in the right side of my head than in the left side…  :’(  so, I keep my hair in a pony tail all the time.  I’m taking biotin, since a couple of months, but I don’t see a huge dif. Maybe, I should consider a “hair, skin & nail vitamin”, I’m on my way to try Organic apple cider vinegar, I’ve read lot of wonders of that, so I’ve decided to give it try. Let’s see how it goes!

      Hi Elizabeth,

Definitely get a hair skin nails vitamins, I’m using Maxi Hair now and I really like it, I’ve learned that not all vitamins created equal, but I found Maxi Hair to work really well.  If I stop taking them then my hair looks pretty bad and It’s not as strong.  But when I combine Maxi Hair and Biotin then my hair looks amazing, plus of course Wen and the the other Hair Mask from Joico, I still use the exact same products and I just love them.  The Joico mask smells like banana bread and it leaves my hair in a very nice condition, it rebuilds the protein of the hair so it shines a lot after this mask once a week.

        Hi Tatianna!
        Thanks for the tip!
I’ll check if I can find” Maxi-Hair” in a local store here, before ordering online, I’ll give it a try for sure, my hair do need something A.S.A.P.! Maybe I’ll give WEN a try as well, I have so many dif. products for my hair, and sometimes I felt I spent so much money for nothing, if Wen can replace a shampoo, conditioner and the leave-in, that deserves a good try!
I’m still waiting for my vinegar, it should arrive today, I’m still waiting 4 it, it’ll arrive probably tomorrow, I can’t wait to give a try as well, I’m reading an e-book which says it is not only good for your hair, and skin, but for your system as well, when drinked with distilled water it can low the blood pressure, detox, support weight lost and more…  I’ll keep reading!

Did you film the new routine today?!

        • http://www.lovingfit.com Tatianna

          Hi Elizabeth,
Definitely look into Maxi Hair, you can get it on Amazon.  I’ve tried other vitamins that were more expensive but they didn’t work as good as maxi hair did. Yes we did film today :) , I felt a bit sick while we were filming but I really wanted to finish that workout. I just finished editing the video and it’s exporting right now :) .

I know it’s totally calling your name :) , I love the pomegranate and the cucumber aloe, the winter collection vanilla was the best so far, the smell was of peppermint chocolate :) .

Yes I finished exporting the video its’ uploading on youtube right now, but its’ taking a while right now it says some absurd number of minutes over 1000 min, so I might just have to wait until the youtube will stop heaving overloaded server later during the day.

i want to share this all natural mask for the hair. i use it once in while and really leaves my hair so soft and silky. it is made of (don t laugh thou!) : egg yolks (i use two cause i have very long hair) , honey, cocoa powder, coconut oil (i sometimes mix with olive oil, or macadamia oil, or castor oil which is really anti frizzy, or flax seeds oil (hope this word is correct?). sometimes i mix little amounts of those oils all together, cause i got so many oils in my bathroom. try to make a cream paste (texture of yogurt for example) and spread all over your hair. leave as long as you can ( 1 hour or more if possible). then i wash my hair with the cheapest conditioner (without silicons) and final rinse with water and a little bit of apple vinegar. sorry for the mkstakes in english.

    • http://www.lovingfit.com Tatianna

That actually sounds exactly what want to try, I love unconventional methods and right now I’m trying to grow my hair out.  I’m gonna give it a try one of these day and let you know how my hair liked it :) .  Thank you Mariasole :)

  • Mariasole Verdi

ps: you may not believe but conditioner can remove oil from your hair! there is a procedure you have to follow thou.

    • http://www.lovingfit.com Tatianna

Ohh I believe it, cause right now to remove oil from my hair I just rinse my hair for 5 minutes and massage the scalp, then all the oil is gone.

I currently have WEN in my shopping basket on amazon.com, but something told me to do some research on shampoo free hair care, and I’m glad I did.  I found that by using baking soda for shampoo and a diluted solution of apple cider vinegar, water and a few drops of lavender essential oil, I can get the same results, if not better, for pennies!  I tried it today, and I’m not disappointed.  WEN is pricey, as are the other products that are shampoo free.  Try this:

Get your hair really really really saturated with water.  Take a palm sized amount of baking powder (I have shorter hair) and put a bit of water to make sort of a thin paste.  massage this all over your scalp and hair.  Leave it on, wash your face/body yadda yadda yadda, rinse.  Then apply the apple cider vinegar/water/lavender mix and massage that into your scalp.  Do whatever else you need to do in the shower…yadda yadda yadda rinse.  Bam, squeaky clean, totally shiny hair.  I noticed on the first try.  WEN is expensive.  My hair is crying for a change, but my bank account was crying over the price of these shampoo free products.  Happy I found a nice compromise.  Also, my hair smells amazing! :)

      Alishis,

I want to try it out, someone else told me about this method.  I’m afraid since my hair is colored I already lost all my hair 2 years ago, it was long and I had to cut it all off it was a nightmare, I looked like a porky pine LOL.  Do you think it would be safe on colored hair?

      • AlishisPhillips

I don’t see how it can damage hair, but try sectioning off your hair, and only apply this to a small bottom section of your hair. that way you can be sure you won’t lose all your hair. That must have been quite a traumatizing experience. I can see where you may be apprehensive to try something new…

But if you like this, the money you will save on your hair care…oh my!

        • http://www.lovingfit.com Tatianna

I bet, the WEN is really starting to take it’s toll on me.  I use a lot less then they recommend on the bottle, and it works great.  Yeah, ever since I lost all that hair I was in hair trauma for a year, I just looked so absurd, short hair is definitely not me, my face looked weird when I had short hair.  Now it’s finally growing out but its’ growing in pieces and some of those pieces are much longer then others.
